Hamsa Vahanam Attracts Devotees at Brahmotsavam
Tirumala, 24 September 2017: On the second day evening of the Brahmotsavam Lord Malayappaswamy is taken out in procession with Hamsa (Swan) as his vehicle in the attire of Goddess Saraswathi the presiding deity of Vidya (learning); holding Veena in both the hands.
Hamsa or swan means ‘pure’. Hamsa is believed to have a high intellectual capability and can distinguish the good from the bad. Hamsa is also symbolized as the vehicle of Goddess Saraswathi.
By riding on Hamsa Vahanam; Lord Venkateswara gave a message that he is the supreme God of learning and also significance of seduction in turning around ones life. Swan or Hamsa also stands out for its capabilities to weed out the good from the bad.This denotes that Lord Venkateswara as Hamsa vahanaroodha (the rider of swan vehicle) will weed out the bad qualities in a human being and retain only the good virtues.
As saint–poet Annamacharya put it “Hamsa-cheti palu neeru-natlaye batuku”. In his embodiment as Veenapani atop the golden swan, Lord Venkateswara drives home the point among the devotees to give up ‘Aham’(ego)and to contribute their might in the service of mankind by helping the poor and needy. Srivari Hamsa Vahanam denotes the significance attached towards selfless service of everyone towards mankind and that ego and personal pride would keep them away from Lord Venkateswara and his divine blessings.
TTD had rolled out an bhakti spectacle with bhajan teams, dancers, kolatas and commentary by experts in five languages-Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, English and Hindi for benefit of devotees. TTD had also set up 19 large screens all around mada streets and 11 other screens at various vantage points of Tirumala for showcasing the celestial vahana seva.
TTD EO Sri Anil Kumar Singhal, Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Ex EO Sri L Subramanyam, CVSO Sri Ake Ravikrishna, Temple DyEO Sri Rama Rao and others took part.
