The annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Konetiray Swamy at Keelapatla in Chittoor district commenced grandly on Thursday morning with Dwajarohanam.

The flag hoisting ceremony was performed between 9.05 am and 9.15 am in Mithuna Lagnam, inviting all deities to the festival. Special pujas were offered to the Garuda flag, and the sacred emblem was installed on the Dwajasthambam amidst Vedic chanting. Earlier, rituals were performed at the village boundary as per tradition.

In the evening at 7 pm, the deity will be taken in a procession on Sesha Vahanam for devotees’ darshan.

Temple Significance

The temple is a renowned spiritual centre. As per legend, Sage Bhrigu is believed to have installed the deity in Salagrama form. The idol resembles the main deity of Tirumala.

Devotees believe that prayers here fulfill their wishes. Saint Annamacharya is also said to have visited this temple and composed hymns.

After its merger with TTD on November 19, 2012, rituals and festivals are being conducted more elaborately. A large number of devotees visit daily. Around 200 devotees offer tonsures every Saturday, and Annaprasadam is served regularly.

Kalyanotsavam is performed every month on the day of Sravana star, and devotees can participate by paying Rs.300. On full moon day, Unjal Seva is also conducted.
