Purusaivari Tototsavam on 14th March

Tirumala, 2 Mar. 21: The 967th Avatarotsavam of Sri Anantalwan also known as Purusaivari Tototsavam will be celebrated in a grand manner at the 966th Tirumala on March 14.

Sri Ananta Alwar, a prominent Sri Vaishnavaite, was one of the ardent devotees of Lord Venkateswara.

TTD is organising the event for the last one decade.  Exponents deliver lectures on Alwan's works during the celebrations held under the auspices of the Alwar Divya Prabanda Project of TTD.

This is a special occasion where descendants of Anantalwan from across the country gather at the Purusaivarithota and perform Divya Prabanda Pasura Parayanam and render Pravachanams.

Legends say that the karpoora patch on the chin of Mula Virat idol of Sri Venkateswara Swamy was put by Anantalwar after he accidentally hit on a boy in a Tirumala garden who turned out to be the Lord Himself. Even today karpoora is applied to the chin of Lord and Prabanda Parayanam is rendered regularly.

The Mahadwaram of Srivari temple also showcases the crowbar with which Anantawar has hit the Lord who appeared in a boy’s guise.
