Temple Legend (Sthala Puranam)
It is believed that the region, once filled with water bodies surrounded by jambu (jamun) trees on the sacred banks of River Penna, gradually came to be known as Jammalamadugu. According to the legend, Lord Venkateswara appeared in the dream of a devotee named Narapurayya and instructed him to install His idol. The idol found in the water body was later consecrated on a sand mound towards the north. Hence, the temple came to be known as Sri Narapura Venkateswara Swamy Temple.
Over time, the temple fell into ruins and was later reconstructed in 1919 with the support of devotees. Subsequently, the temple was brought under the administration of TTD on October 23, 2008, and since then, daily rituals and festivals have been conducted with grandeur.
