Unique Sahasra Kalasabhishekam Performed at Sri Venkateswara Vaibhavotsavams

As part of the ongoing Sri Venkateswara Vaibhavotsavams in the spacious AC Subba Reddy Stadium at Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore District, the unique Sahasra Kalasabhishekam was performed with utmost religious fervor on Wednesday.

The significance of this ritual is that Pallava Queen Samavai consecrated the one-foot silver idol of Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy(a replica of the Chief deity) in the later half of the 7th Century.

Marking the historical moment, special Sahasra Kalasabhishekam is being observed in Tirumala temple once a year where abhisheka is performed to the uthsava deities of Srivaru, Sridevi, and Bhudevi along with Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy with sacred water in 1000 Kalasams. Snapana Tirumanjanam was also performed to the Utsava deities.

While performing this ritual, the priests tie a holy thread to the presiding deity in Garbha Gruha at one end and another end to Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy. This implies that whatever abhisheka is performed to the Silver idol is also done to the main deity.

This ritual was performed between 8.30 am and 10 am amidst chanting of Vedic hymns by the Archakas. Earlier, during the day, akin to the first day, the awakening ritual of Srivaru, Suprabhatam was performed. Later from 10:30 am onwards, Thomala, Koluvu, and Archana are performed. From 11.30 am till 5.30 pm Sarva Darshanam will continue for devotees while in the evening Unjal Seva will be performed followed by evening Kainkaryams.

The Honourable Minister for Agriculture Sri K Govardhan Reddy participated in the second-day rituals. Among others, Rajya Sabha MP Sri Vemireddi Prabhakar Reddy, New Delhi LAC Chief Smt Prasanthi Reddy, one of the Pradhana Archakas of Tirumala Sri Venugopala Deekshitulu, Annamacharya Project Director Dr. Vibhishana Sharma, AVSO Sri Narayana, and other officials were also present.
