Tirumala, 10 October 2016: On the pleasant night on Monday, the Lord Malayappa Swamy took celestial ride on Aswa Vahanam, the last one in the series of Brahmotsava Vahana sevas and blessed the devotees in four mada streets.
RELATION BETWEEN DEITY AND VAHANAM
The relationship between the deity and the Vehicle is not merely that of a master and servant, but almost that of a father and son, or the body and the soul. Outwardly they may appear as two entities, but internally they are united and share the same consciousness as in case of an embodied being. The Vehicles or the Vahanas cannot be considered mere animals or creatures because they are endowed with the knowledge and power of the deity, which is superior to that of humans.
If deity is the soul, the vahana is his physical aspect representing the duality of beingness. In this regard, the body of each being is also a Vehicle which carries or embodies the soul.
IMPORTANCE OF ASWA
Horse is the symbol of speed. The cavalry used to be the most important among four categories of forces of war. The Ucchaisrava, divine white horse born from milk ocean. Mounted on horse with a sword in one hand, Lord Maha Vishnu took incarnation as Kalki, the tenth one in the series, to save the good from evil forces.
By taking ride on this celestial vehicle on eighth day, the Lord preached that one should have control over the senses like a horse.
