Minister KTR attends AdvaMed 2016 Conference; invites major medical technology companies to invest in Telangana

Minister Sri KT Rama Rao stated that Telangana has consistently been ranked number one in Ease of Doing Business index within India and is the ideal investment destination for medical technology firms. The Industries and Commerce, IT, MAUD and NRI Affairs Minister Sri KT Rama Rao was interacting with industry leaders from Pharma, Medical Technology companies on the sidelines of Medical Technology Conference – AdvaMed 2016 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.


A delegation of Telangana lead by Hon’ble Minister Sri KT Rama Rao,
on the final leg of his business trip to the United States of America, is attending the prestigious international conference – AdvaMed 2016 - to promote the State on the global stage and attract investments.  



Minister KT Rama Rao spoke at length about Telangana’s widely acclaimed industrial policy – TSiPASS. Calling the Policy the most progressive and industry-friendly in India for it promises time-bound and single-window clearances, self-certifications, the Minister detailed on the unmatched advantages Telangana offers in the fields of Healthcare, Pharma and Medical Technology devices. Hon’ble Minister drew the attention of the industry leaders, about a hundred in number, to the measures Telangana Government is taking to further strengthen the USD 50 bn extant life sciences industry in Hyderabad. Sri Rama Rao mentioned the state-of-the-art Pharma City and Medical Devices Park that the Telangana is setting up near Hyderabad.



The Minister quoted major surveys that gave Hyderabad top rankings under various segments. Hon’ble Minister also stated that Hyderabad boasts of the best healthcare infrastructure in India and is a favourite destination for medical tourism.



On the sidelines of AdvaMed 2016 Conference, Minister Sri KT Rama Rao held one-to-one discussions with leaders from Healthcare, Pharma and Medical Devices industries.


In the meeting with Mr Gary Pruden, Worldwide Chairman, Medical Devices, Johnson & Johnson Sri KT Rama Rao held discussions on topics ranging from manufacturing, intellectual property rights, to regulatory issues.



Minister KTR had a meeting with Mr Omar Ishrak, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for medical technology firm Medtronic on the sidelines of AdvaMed 2016 being held in Minneapolis. Sri Rama Rao elaborated on the various opportunities Telangana offers for collaboration.



Mr. Benson Smith, Chairman, President and CEO of Teleflex Inc. met Sri Rama Rao and the Minister invited the medical devices firm to consider investing in Telangana. Minister also met Mr. Kevin Lobo, President & CEO Stryker Corporation.



Earlier, Minister Sri KT Rama Rao met Mr. Paul Kalil, Vice-President and Dr. Vemuri S. Murthy, India Liaison of American Heart Association in Chicago. Sri Rama Rao invited them to join the State Government for a collaborative effort to reduce cardiac risks in Telangana. The team said that they will soon visit Hyderabad to formalise the engagement.
The Telangana Lounge set up at the AdvaMed 2016 venue drew several visitors from the Pharma, Medical Technology industries. The leadership of these companies sought more information on Telangana and its policies which was provided at the stall.
