Honourable Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao
on Thursday declared that the government would provide financial assistance of
Rs 4000 per acre to the farmers in Telangana State to purchase fertilizer. From
the next financial year, every year before the Kharif season in the last week
of May the amount will be deposited into the bank accounts of farmers. After
the state government has announced the loan waiver, farmers across the State
from all the districts came in large numbers to meet the CM at Pragati Bhavan
and personally thank him for the gesture. Agriculture Minister Pocharam
Srinivas Reddy made the inaugural address on the occasion. In this meeting,
Nizamabad MP Smt Kavita, Mission Bhagiratha Vice Chairman Vemula Prashanth
Reddy, Government Whips Gampa Govardhan, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MLAs Bajireddy Goverdhan, Enugu Ravinder Reddy, Jeevan Reddy,
Shakeel and others participated.
The CM has addressed farmers on the
occasion. “We all have struggled to get a separate Telangana State. During the
agitation, several people have made fun of us in many ways and insulted us.
Despite this, we have struggled for the Telangana State and got it. As if we
had a last laugh, in Telangana there is brightness and prosperity among the
people. Farmers’ situation used to be in
deep distress then. It was like waiting for a bright tomorrow which never came.
We have decided to bring in a qualitative change among the lives of farmers.
This is the reason why we wanted to give water to 1 Crore acres of land in the
State. We are reviving Tanks through Mission Kakatiya and supplying quality
power for nine hours. Even in the peak of summer we are giving quality power.
We have made plans to fill Nizamsagar with water from Medigadda. We are filling
up the Tanks and are completing various projects on a fast track. We will give
water to 1 Crore acres of land come what may,” the CM took a vow.
“Unprecedented in the country, we have
waived loans of 36 lakh farmers amounting to Rs 17,000 Crore. Now farmers have
become debt free. I feel very happy now. As we have mentioned repeatedly during
the Telangana agitation, the State’s financial situation is strong and its
prosperity on the increase. These benefits should reach farmers and I think I
am fortunate to have the opportunity to serve farmers. I want to do more for
the farming community. We are supplying seed and fertilizers to farmers on time
along with 9 hours free and uninterrupted power supply. We are encouraging
micro irrigation by giving more subsidies. We waived the loans. Inputs are a
burden on farmers and we want to share it too. This is the reason why we have
made a historical announcement today. There are about 55 Lakh farmers in the
State who are using 25 Lakh tonnes of fertilizer. The government will give them
Rs 4000 per acre to each for the procurement of fertilizer. From the next
financial year onwards, every year in the last of week of May this amount will
be deposited in the accounts of farmers. This programme will be implemented
cent percent transparently. For this,
farmers should form into Associations at the village level. These farmers
associations should monitor all issues and programmes of farmers and
agriculture, the CM said.
