World Blood Donor Day organized by TSACS

“World Blood Donor Day” is celebrated on 14th June all over the world every year to create awareness for the safe blood and importance of blood donation. The significance of observance of this day is to mobilize potential Voluntary Blood Donors for safe, sufficient and continuous blood supply.  People must understand the importance of blood donation and come forward voluntarily to prevent blood shortages, for all those in need.                 In connection with the WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY,  Telangana State AIDS Control Society (TSACS), DAPCU, Hyderabad & State Blood Transfusion Council  organised World Blood Donor Day Event on 14th Jun 2017 at Osmania Medical College. A rally was flagged off by Dr John Babu, Addl Project Director, TSACS at DM & HS Campus, wherein College Students, Nursing Students, General Public Participated. Public meeting started with cultural activities addressing the theme of this Year “What Can you Do?” with the slogan that “Give Blood, Give Now, Give Often”.  The Chief Guest of the meeting is Dr.Lalitha Kumari, DPH, TS, who addressed the gathering that “there were many problems in getting the blood for the needy few decades back, wherein medical college students use to donate blood to the needy at the emergencies. Now a days, people are coming forward, donating blood and technology support also helping the needy to get the blood from the Blood Banks.  Youth is the major source for blood donation who needs to come forward and donate blood”.  Dr. Ramani, Director of Medical Education (DME) has observed that “ Donating blood will help the donor that will improve the health of the donor. Fresh blood will be regenerated after each donation which is so useful for the Donor as well as receiver. She also insisted on promotion of organ donation.                 Dr. John Babu, Additional Project Director, TSACS, who presided over the function has spoken about the importance of blood Donation, need for blood and the responsibility of the youth to come forward to save the lives of the people in need of blood. In the last financial year 2016-17, the total need based target for Blood collection is 4.1 lakh units. Telangana state achieved collection of 4.04 lakh units, Out of this collection 69% is purely through voluntary blood donation.             Dr. Padmaja, DM & HO Hyderabad has addressed the youth on donating blood and saving lives.             Before the public meeting, Institute of Preventive Medicine has organized the Blood Donation Camp which was inaugurated by Dr. Lalitha Kumari, DPH wherein students, a group of employee donors from Being Human Organisation have donated the blood.             Awards were distributed to the Individuals, Institutions in recognition of maximum number of blood donations and blood donation camps.             Apart from the above, Dr. Sasikala, Vice Principal,  Osmania Medical College, Dr. Subhash Chandra Bose, ADM & HO, Hyderabad, Dr. Rammohan, JD(BTS), TSACS and Mr. Basaveswara Rao, JD (IEC), TSACS have participated in the program.  CRPF was recognized for its highest Blood Donations from their forces.
