Bonalu Festival Celebrated at Dr. MCR HRD Institute with Loads of Zeal and Euphoria


Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana celebrated 'Bonalu' festival with gaiety and fervour. Attired in their best, a large number of Officers, Faculty, Staff, and Trainees, irrespective of caste, creed, and religion, participated in the celebrations. The entire campus, which displayed a carnival-like atmosphere, was enveloped in a festive mood.

The Bonalu procession started from Vivekananda Block and culminated at the Temple on the campus of the Institute. A team of about 15 artists, dressed as various goddesses and mythological characters, participated in the procession. They were dancing energetically to the beats of drums and at the same time balancing pots on their heads. A captivating fusion of dance and acrobatics captured the imagination of the spell-bound spectators.  Quite a few employees of the Institute gave in to the festive mood, matched step-for-step with the professional dancers, and captured the hearts of every one present.

The proceedings of the celebrations were witnessed by Sri B P Acharya, IAS, Spl. Chief Secretary for Planning Dept. & DG, Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana and his team of senior officers. Seven IAS Officer Trainees, who are allotted to Telangana, were also present on the occasion.

“The participation in the Bonalu festival gave us an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the rich culture and vibrant traditions of Telangana”, said Mr. Hanumanth Zendage, one of the IAS Officer Trainees from Maharashtra.
The Department of Culture, Government of Telangana sponsored the team of Bonalu artists to participate in the celebrations.

The celebrations concluded with a sumptuous lunch, which was liked by one and all.
