Splurge of Folk Arts in Mada Streets

Tirumala, 27 September 2017: The folk arts display on four mada streets organised by various cultural projects of TTD as part of the cultural foray during the Brahmotsavams, kept the devotees spell bound on Wednesday. 

As Lord Malayappaswamy graced on the Pallaki vahanam in Mohini avatar and moved along four mada streets, the exhibit presented by artistes   belonging to HDPP, Dasa Sahitya, Annamacharya Project and the SV dance and music college captivated the devotees in the galleries of mada streets. 

Focus of today's cultural bonanza was the Tappeta Gullu folk dances by the  tribal artists from Gangada village of Balijapeta mandal in Vizianagaram district. The troupe led by Sri N Majji with artists presented the skits from Ramayana, Sri Krishnavatara in folk format. Tappetagullu is a folk art form of the contemporary hip-hop style and it was a visual treat to devotees to see them jump in air beating their drums.

Another enchanting display was by Sri Anand and Balaji of Madurai who presented Dasavatara Umbrella. While Smt Hemalatha leader of Sri Garudadri bhajana mandali of Rajahmundry presented the Sri Krishna-Kaliamardhana episode enthralling the devotees.

Another notable feature of cultural activities in front of Mohini Vahanam today were the Keelu-gurralu (wooden horses) dance by the Sri Venkateswara Janapada bhajan mandali of Palamner led by Sri Ravindra of Chittor district. 

The star attraction of the event was the Khoya dance by the tribal artists from East Godavari. It was performed by the 41 artists of Sri Maruti Nasik Dolu team lead by Sri Shivaramakrishna Rao. The chakka bhajana by Sri Venkateswara bhajana mandal, chandi drum beat display by the Sri Ramanjaneya troupe of Udupi (Karnataka) kept the audience spell bound in the mada streets.
