Agricultural Universities should play
greater role in rural development - Governor Narasimhan
Hyderabad, December 13: Addressing the faculty and students at the
First Convocation of the Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural
University at Rajendranagar on Wednesday, Governor of Telangana and AP and
Chancellor of the University, Sri E.S.L. Narasimhan said the it is the
responsibility of the Agricultural Universities to see to that the gap between
the rich and the poor is reduced. More research in Agriculture, Animal
Husbandry and Horticulture is key to rural development, the Governor said. While presenting Degrees to the students, gh
advised the Doctoral, Post Graduate and Graduate Degree recipients of the
Agricultural University to adopt villages and work for the development of the
villages. The Governor also said that the Professors, Researchers and Students
should take their knowledge in the books to the field. He complimented the
students for the research conducted to improve the lives of farmers and to
ensure that the benefits of research reaches them. The State should be divided
the farm lands into crop colonies and it should be ensured that the farmers
derive maximum benefit out of the system. The University is deeply involved in
formulating the guidelines to devise the system of crop colonies. He also said
that we need to see how it will really multiply the incomes of farmers because
for the farmer his land is everything in his life. That is the reason why we
should assure them that their crops will not fail by using technology, better
seeds, said Governor Narasimhan.

in the Convocation as the Chief Guest.
