Hyderabad, 1st March, 2018: Devotees from different parts of both the Telugu states thronged the Mata Amritanandamayi Math at Mahindra Hills to seek the blessings of World renowned spiritual leader Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, on the second day of her visit to Hyderabad. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, affectionately known toher devotees across the globe as "Amma”, is undertaking the Bharat yatrato reach out to the poor and needy and spread the message of love and serve, besides blessing the large community of her devotees. During her stay here, she is holding satsang, bhajans, meditation and is available for individual darshan to devotees.
Apart from numerous charitable activities that Mata Amritanandamayi Math carries out, like Vidaymritam (scholarship program for school children), Amrita Nidhi (free monthly pension program for widows), free medical services etc., to make our villages self-reliant and role models of sustainable development, Amma has initiated a unique program - 'The Amrita SeRVe' (Self Reliant Villages). As part of The Amrita SeRVe, Amma has adopted two villages, one each in both the states - Kodur in Medak district in Telangana and Gudipaticheruvu in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Amma believes empowerment of the village can be accomplished only through the empowerment of women at home. As part of this program, Mata Amritanandamayi Math has started a training center that provides free vocational training to women in tailoring. The training center at Kodur has also started training and production of low cost, clothed sanitary napkins, which in addition to providing sanitary hygiene to the women from the rural India, will also create a source of livelihood for women from the village. The training center also provides tuition for children in the villages from kindergarten to 10th class.
In Gudipaducheruvu, in the year 2015, houses have been constructed for poorest of the poor people and in the year 2016, water distribution network has been created by constructing several water tanks and connecting them to water taps all over the village. In the year 2017, in order to address the problem of health hazards caused due to contaminated water, a UV water filter with the capacity of 1000 liters has been installed.
In order to address the issue of malnourishment, villagers from both the villages are being encouraged and guided by Mata Amritanandamayi Math to cultivate their own kitchen garden. Due to Mata Amritanandamayi Math’s encouragement and guidance, villagers have started adopting to organic farming.
Future plans
In near future, Mata Amritanandamayi Math intends to adopt more villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.In Kodur, Mata Amritanandamayi Math has installed ‘Compressed Mud Block’ making unit, which will be eco-friendly and stronger alternative to existing bricks. This unit willhelp villagers to earn theirlivelihood. This new initiative will be announced during Mata Amritanandamayi Amma’s Hyderabad public program.
Green initiative
As part of green initiative, Mata Amritanandamayi Math has organized the planting of more than a million trees globally since 2001. Every year thousands of sapling and organic seeds are distributed by Mata Amritanandamayi Math.

Amma's initiatives in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
In the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Mata Amritanandamayi Math has been undertaking several welfare schemes for the amelioration of the poor and deprived sections of the society. During Her visit in 2008, Amma announced an Educational Scholarship scheme 'VIDYAMRITAM', forpoor students chosen from underprivilegedfamilies of farmers. During the Floods in Kurnool in 2009, AMMA sent a relief team including volunteers from the Hyderabad Ashram center to console the victims and to distribute food, blankets, utensils, bedding and clothing. Doctors from AIMS, Cochin, accompanied by one Tele Medicine Ambulance and one fully equipped Ambulance attended to around 20,000 patients and distributed medicines worth Rs.1 crore.
Some of the initiatives undertaken by Mata AmritanandamayiMath :
- Relief and rehabilitation works worth Rs. 200 Crores had already been provided by Amma for the Tsunami.
- Construction of 1,25,000 free homes for the poor.
- "Vidyamritam" Educational Scholarships to 1 lakh students across India picked from the poor farmers families'.
- Z 50 Crores worth relief and rehabilitation works for the flood affected areas of Mahaboobnagar dist. and Karnataka in 2009.
- Rebuilt three earthquake-devastated villages in Gujarat.
- Gives monthly pension to over 50,000 destitute woman.
- Feeds over 1,00,000 poor every month.
- Care homes for the elderly.
