Tirupati, 05 Apr 2018: The 111th Birth Anniversary of Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram was observed with fervour in TTD administrative building on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal said, Babu Jagjivan Ram fought for the equality of underprivileged classes. In 1946, he became the youngest minister in Jawaharlal Nehru's provisional government and also the subsequent First Indian Cabinet, as a Labour Minister, where he is credited for several labour welfare policies in India.
The EO said, Sri Babu Jagjivan made his mark in every field he served as Minister of Tele Communications, Transport and Railways, and Transport and Communications while in Indira Gandhi's government, as minister for Labour, Employment, and Rehabilitation and Union Minister for Food and Agriculture where he is best remembered for having successfully led the Green Revolution during his tenure. It was during his tenure as the Minister of Defence that the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was fought, and Bangladesh gained independence", he remembered.
The EO further said, following the principle of equality, many SC, ST employees are given promotion in TTD as per rules. "TTD has also taken up construction of temples in SC, ST colonies. An amount of Rs.25cr is allotted to Samarasata Foundation and also we are giving training to SCs and fishermen community in priesthood", he maintained.
Tirupati JEO P Bhaskar said, the Birth Anniversary of Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram is being observed as Samatha Divas. He recalled him as one of the most powerful Socio-political reformers in the country.
Later Dr P Varalakshmi, Telugu lecturer in Government Degree and PG College, Puttur recalled the achievements of Sri Jagjivan Ram while K Srinivasulu, Chairman Dr Bhimrao Educational Development Charitable Trust elaborated on the caste discrimination he faced during his childhood and how he overcome all the disparities and proved himself not just individual but as a socio-political force.
