Pavitra Mala Offered to Deities












Tirumala, 12 Aug. 19: As a part of annual pavitrotsavams on the second day, Pavitra Malas were offered to different deities in the sanctum of Tirumala temple on Monday.
In the Agama Jargon, the entire process is known as Pavitra Mala Samarpana. These Pavitra Garlands are the purest and sacred and are knitted out in pure silk using natural colour dyes. In ancient literature, there is a description of the different bhavas of pavitra. 
SIGNIFICANCE OF COLOURS
Kesri coloured pavitra represents satvik bhava, white and red represents rajas bhava, green coloured is tamas bhava and sky blue is nirguna bhava. Hence, five coloured pavitra represents the bhava of all the devotees. The tradition of pavitra has come down from ancient times. 
ABOUT 80 PAVITRAMS ADORN DIFFERENT DEITIES 
In totto nearly 80 Pavitrams are adorned to different murthies in the temple and also outside. These includes,  Moolavarlu - 8, Bogasrinivasa-1 Koluvu Moorthy -1, Ugrasrinivasa Moorthy -3, Ramula varu -3, Krishna Swamy -2, Chakrtalwar 1, Jaya Vijaya-2, Garudalwar-1, Varadarajasway-1, Potu Tayar-1, Vimanam-6, Parivara Devathalu -6, Viswachenulavaru- 1, Yoga Narasimha Swamy -1, Bhashyakarulavaru-2, Padi Potu Tayar- 1, Yamunathorai-5, Dhwajastamambham-2 , Balipeetam- 1, Varahaswmay moolavarlu -1, Utsavarlu 2, Jaya Vijaya 2, Viswaksenulavaru and bashaykarulavaru utsavarulu-2,koneru anjaneyaswamy -1, Bedi anjaneyaswamy 1, Sri Malayappa Swamy 3, Pradana kumbam- 3, Parivara kumbam-16 and Homagundams.
TTD EO Sri Anil Kumar Singhal speaking to media outside the temple after the ceremony said the history of Pavitrotsavams in Tirumala way backs to 1464AD wherein for the first time Saluva Mallyadevaraya conducted this festival as per available inscriptional evidence. He said this festival is observed to remove the evil effects and maintain high-level spiritual atmosphere in the temple.
CVSO Sri Gopinath Jatti, Temple DyEO Sri Harindranath and other officers also took part in this celestial fete.
