Karthika Vanabhojanam in Tirumala on 17th Nov

Tirumala, 10 Nov. 19: TTD is all set to observe Karthika Vanabhojana Mahotsavam on November 17 at Paruveta Mandapam.

On this special occasion, TTD will organize a mass community dining programme in the lush green forests of Seshachalam, covered with Amla trees. It is widely believed that Lord Sri Maha Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi Devi reside in Amla trees in the holy month of Karthika.  Community dining under amla trees is considered to be auspicious during the month of Karthika. Hundreds of devotees converge in this mass dining programme.

Before this mass dining programme, the special Snapana Tirumanjanam is performed to the processional deities of Lord Sri Malayappa Swamy and His two consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. There will also be a rendition of Annamacharya Sankeertans and Harikatha Parayanam on the significance of Karthika Vanabhojanam and Karthika Puranam.

According to the available historical evidence, this festival was first introduced by Sri Tallapaka Pedda Tirumalacharya, the younger son of Saint Poet Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya, in 16 century AD. Later it was revived by TTD in the year 2010.
