I salute the people of Telangana for their love and affection: Governor

Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on

Wednesday entered into her second year in office in the service of the

people of Telangana as the Governor of the State.

Marking the occasion, she interacted with the journalists representing

various media organisations through a video conference from the Durbar

Hall of the Raj Bhavan.

The Governor said that cooperation between the Raj Bhavan and Pragathi

Bhavan will benefit the people of Telangana.

She thanked the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for sending her

bouquet through Chief Secretary to wish her on the occasion of her

successful completion of one year in the service of the people.

In her address on the occasion, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan outlined

health, education and tribal welfare as her top three priorities.

Cherishing her association with the people of Telangana during the last

one year as the Governor, she said that she was overwhelmed by the love

and affection of the people of Telangana who call her as their Akka

(sister).

“I am the daughter of Tamil Nadu and Sister of Telangana. By whatever

the name they call me as akka or amma, what matters most to me is

their great affection and I am very happy about their love towards me,”

the Governor added.

Elaborating on it she said that she salutes the spirit of Telangana people

for their historic fight for separate State since Independence and stated

that she developed an emotional attachment with the people.

Referring to her restricted visits to the districts due to the COVID-19

pandemic, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed her wish to visit more

remote and tribal areas and interact with the people. “Hopefully I will

resume my visits when the pandemic situation subsides,” she said.

Responding to a query, the Governor expressed her satisfaction about the

State government’s measures in ramping up testing numbers, introducing

mobile testing labs and for starting the district Covid-19 hospitals.

The Governor made it clear that her advice and suggestions were only in

the best interest of the people and are only to complement the services of

the government and not contradict.

“The government is taking my suggestions in a positive manner. I talk

like a physician not like a politician. My words are for sensible purposes

and not for sensationalism. I suggest only in the best interest of the

people of Telangana and not for any political purpose. I know my

constitutional responsibilities. I am only complementing the services and

acting like a catalyst and not for any controversy. The governments at the

Centre and State are doing their best in containing the pandemic,” the

Governor said.

Asked about what she liked the most about Hyderabad and Telangana,

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said that she liked the Hyderabad Biryani,

Telangana people’s traditions, dressing, culture, affection and humble

smile, saris, accessories and I love everything about Hyderabad.

Telangana people are friendly and are emotionally connected.

Responding to a query about the secret of her energy, the Governor said

that her passion to do something to the society always keeps her

motivated and energised.

“Something should be done to the people and time should not be wasted.

I am a voracious reader and nature-lover and they rejuvenate me a lot,”

she added.

The Governor said that her husband and renowned Nephrologist Dr.

Soundararajan was always beside her and added that she became more

successful as Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan. “He is not only part of my

name. He is part of everything in my life,” she added.

As part of the programme, the Governor initiated the “Chancellor

Connects Alumni,” which she termed it as her “dream project” to connect

alumni of all the universities to contribute their might for their alma

mater.

The Governor launched the Connect Chancellor website, developed by the

NIC, and called upon the alumni of different universities in Telangana to

connect, contribute and strengthen their old universities.

On the occasion, the Governor also launched the new website of the

Telangana Raj Bhavan to facilitate easier and greater access to the

people. She said that Raj Bhavan is a true Peoples Bhavan.

The Governor thanked the Hon’ble President of India, Prime Minister and

the union Home Minister for the opportunity to serve the people of

Telangana as the Governor and thanked the Chief Minister for the

cooperation.

The Governor appealed to the people to be cautious and stay safe by

following all the Covid-19 preventive measures.

The Governor had a word of praise for the Raj Bhavan officers and staff

led by Secretary to Governor K. Surendra Mohan for their relentless

efforts in translating her vision into reality.

A colourfully compiled e-book of Governor’s first year initiatives and

events was launched on the occasion.
