Hyderabad, Nov 28: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday said that India is on the threshold of emerging as the global leader in the production and supply of vaccine for Covid-19.
She said that the India
has been supplying 60 per cent of the different vaccines for the world. It is
the largest producer and supplier of the vaccines in the world. The world is
looking at India for the massive production of Covid-19 vaccines and their
supply across the globe.
The Governor was the chief
guest at the 3rd Global Medical Excellence Event, organised by the
World Tamil Organisation, UK, through virtual mode from the Raj Bhavan, here.
She spoke on the topic of “Road to
Recovery: Vaccinations and Mental Wellbeing” at the webinar.
Dr. Tamilisai
Soundararajan highlighted the need for having a robust vaccination plan to
ensure vaccination of the all the people with special emphasis on immunising
the vulnerable sections on a priority basis.
“Today our Prime Minister
visited three important vaccine research centres-Ahmedabad, Pune, and
Hyderabad-and gave a morale booster to the scientists working relentlessly to
come out the effective vaccine for the Covid-19. India will live up to its
reputation as the Pharmacy of the World by scaling up its Covid-19 vaccine
production and supply,” she added.
Referring to the massive disruption
caused by the Covid-19 in all sectors, the Governor said education sector was
one of the worst affected with more than 50 crore children across the globe
were out of the schools.
As the disruption and
negative impact on many sectors was unprecedented due to the Covid-19 pandemic,
she called for the strong and positive attitude for mental wellbeing of the
people to overcome the impact of the pandemic.
“Fighting against the
pandemic and taking care of the physical and mental wellbeing of the people need
to be taken up simultaneously. we need to adhere to preventive norms until we
get vaccinated, as the virus is still virulent,” the Governor added.
Eminent speakers like the British- South India Council of Commerce Chairman, Virender
Sharma, former union minister Dr. A Ramdoss, Harvard Tamil Chair Co-Founder Dr
Janaki Raman, Dr. Prabhu Rajendran and Dr Cynthia Victor of World Tamil
Organisation were among those who spoke at the event.
