Social and Tribal Welfare Girls Selected for Hyderabad Women Cricket Team

“No matter what your family background is, your dreams are valid”. B. Anjali and Nikitha from social welfare residential institutions and Parvathi and Anitha from tribal welfare residential educational institutions chose to follow their dreams and they have travelled a long way from extremely humble family backgrounds to Senior Hyderabad Women Cricket team. They broke glass-ceiling and got selected for the senior Women Hyderabad Cricket team in style. The rise of four marginalized girls is worth celebrating because of the fact that all these girls are aged below 18 years, and yet they were picked up for the senior women cricket team (U-23) considering their outstanding talent in the cricketing field.

The heart-warming stories of B. Anjali, Nikitha Parvathi and Anitha are similar and they all stand tall having overcome odds of poverty and their stories are surely one of guts and glory. Cricket academies launched by social and tribal welfare residential educational institutions were game changers for these girls

It’s matter of great pride that 13 years-old tribal girl Parvathi who hails from Koudipalli mandal, Medak district made it to the senior Hyderabad women cricket team. Her parents work as farm labourers to eke out a living. B Anjali from Mudigonda mandal, Khammam district says “whatever I am today is because of the cricket intensive coaching camp being run by social and tribal welfare residential educational institutions. I never imagined that I would get selected to the Hyderabad women cricket team at a very young age.  I want to represent the Indian women cricket team in international tournaments one day”.

Anitha, a tribal girl of Hanumanpalli thanda of Mahaboob Nagr district says, cricket is my passion and thanks to the government of Telangana for launching cricket academies and encouraging poor children to shine in sports”.

A delighted secretary Dr RS Praveen Kumar congratulated the girls and said it’s great news, while thanking the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Minister for Scheduled Caste Development Department Koppula Eshwar and Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod for launching sports academies and helping poor students. “The rise of marginalized girls to the senior Women Hyderabad Cricket team is very inspirational for thousands of marginalized girls for whom touching a cricket bat and playing cricket was a big deal” further says Dr RS Praveen Kumar. Secretary also thanked the Hyderabad Cricket Association for their support.
