TTD Forest Staff Being Trained in Diverting Elephants From Habitsts to Forests

In the recent backdrop of some pachyderms entering into the public places from forest regions in Sheshachala, TTD forest officials, Supervisors etc. were given a special training program at SVETA Bhavan on Saturday.

The training session was conducted by eminent elephant psychologist Dr Rudra Aditya from Himachal Pradesh.

Conducting theory sessions in the morning and field sessions in the post-lunch the visiting expert emphasised that whenever elephants entered habitats making noise or throwing stones would not help.

He demonstrated a procedure of making smoke with dried chillies in Gunny bags and tie them to a bamboo stick, each in a gap of ten meters and the spicy smell would help drive away from the animals.

In case of rains, same procedure shall be followed to spread spicy fog by tying the chilli loaded boxes to the trees. He also advised forest workers to not wear a white and red dress which agitate the pachyderms and should wear green coloured apparels only.

He advised that in the event of elephants chasing they should not climb a tree but run zig zag. He enlightened the TTD forest staff on the mid set of elephants during all seasons and how to deal with the situation.

In charge DFO Smt and SVETA Director Smt Prashanti, Range officers Sri Prabhakar Reddy, Sri Venkata Subbaiah, Sri Raghurami Reddy, Sri Swamy Vivekananda were present.
