I
am determined to scale the seven highest mountain peaks in the seven continents
of the world, says confident Malavath Poorna after successfully conquering the
Europe’s highest mountain peak Mt. Elbrus, Russia. So far, I conquered three
highest mountain peaks in the three continents of the world, Mt. Everest in
Asia,
Mt.
Kilimanjaro, Africa and Mt. Elbrus, Europe.
16
year-old Sri Vidya of TSWREI Aleir school successfully scaled the Mt. Elbrus
along with Malavath Poorna. “I cannot even describe how difficult the climb
was, but I resolved on achieving the impossible against all odds says Sri
Vidya. As a mark of tribute, I hoisted the portrait of the Chief Minister K.
Chandrasekhar Rao on the top of the Mt. Elbrus. The Chief Minister sanctioned
53 welfare residential degree colleges for women and men which no other state
in India has done before. The Chief Minister gave wings to our dreams and
supporting us in a big way to explore new horizons. If not for the residential
degree colleges for women, hundreds of my sisters would have been married off
by now and would have been trapped in a vicious cycle of gender discrimination
and poverty, added Sri Vidya. Thanks to the Chief Minister for liberating the
young girls from the most disadvantaged sections of the society.
The
2 member TSWREIS team led by Malavath Poorna began trekking the mountain on
July, 24th, reached the peak (5642mtr) on July 27th, at
7.30 am Moscow time.
Sri
Vidya hails from Nalgonda district and her parents work as daily wage labourers
to eke out a living. Malavath Poorna hails from a tribal hamlet in Nizamabad
district and currently pursuing undergraduate course at TSWRDC Ibrahimpatnam.
Dr
RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS expressed happiness over the remarkable achievements
of the young mountaineers. Our children may be poor, but they are never
poor in energy, enthusiasm and determination.
Dr
Kumar thanked the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Minister for
Scheduled Caste Development G. Jagadish Reddy for supporting the welfare
residential educational institutions in a big way under the KG-PG Mission and
the entire country is trying to emulate the Telangana model of welfare
educational institutions.
Thanks
and Regards
Dr
RS Praveen Kumar
