ANANTHALWARS 965thINCARNATION DAY CELEBRATED


 

Tirumala, 24 Feb. 19: The 965thAvatharotsavam (incarnation day) of Sri Anantha Alwar, the prominent Sri Vaishnava devotee of Lord Venkateswara was celebrated with day long parayanams and discourses at the Purusaivari Thota (Ananta Alwar Gardens) in Tirumala, on Sunday.


About 300 descendants of Ananthalwar from Kanchipuram, Srivalliputtur, Tiruchanoor, Tiruvellikeni and Melkote
participated in the celebrations at these gardens in Tirumala.


HH Sri Sri Sri Pedda Jeeyar and HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamijis of Tirumala led the event with their Anugraha Bhashanam while the day, which kicked off with the Divya Prabandha Parayanam by a chorus of Vedic pundits from the Divya Alwar Prabandha Project.


Later on 18 exponents presented devotional discourses till the evening on the scholarly works of the Saint Alwars Sri Anantha Alwar who had composed over 4000 pasurams in praise of Lord Venkateswara and about his encounter with the Lord Himself.


Temple legends are full of lores of Anatha Alwar pasting karpooram on the chin of Lord Venkateswara and also the crow bar with which he had allegedly hit the Lord incognito in the gardens is still visible at the Temple 

 

Among others Sri Chokka Lingam, editor of Sapthagiri magazine of TTD was also present.
