The Tulasi Mahatyam Festival will be observed with religious fervour at Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati on August 06, coinciding with Sravana Suddha Dwadasi, the auspicious day believed to mark the appearance of the sacred Tulasi plant.
Sri Maha Vishnu, to whom Sri Govindaraja Swamy is believed to be an incarnation, always pleased with offerings of Tulasi leaves, and the festival is held to celebrate its significance.
As part of the celebrations, Sri Govindaraja Swamy will be taken in procession on Garuda Vahanam around the four mada streets of the temple from 8 AM to 9:30 AM, blessing devotees along the way. This will be followed by a special Asthanam near the Bangaru Vakili from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, where temple priests will recite the Tulasi Mahatyam Purana.
After the rituals, Theertha Prasadam will be distributed to the devotees on that auspicious day.
