Potti Sriramulu Sacrificed His Life for the Formation of Telugu States: Dr Aravind Kumar






Dr. Aravind Kumar, Professor from the Department of History at Dravidian University, said that Amarajeevi Sri Potti Sriramulu sacrificed his life through a fast for the self-respect of the Telugu people.


The 125th birth anniversary of Sri Potti Sriramulu was observed in a grand manner on Monday at the Annamacharya Kalamandiram in Tirupati.


Speaking on the occasion as a guest speaker, Dr. Aravind Kumar said that Sri Potti Sriramulu was inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and worked for the welfare of the weaker sections of society. He said that those who dedicate their lives for the welfare of others become true leaders, and Sri Potti Sriramulu is a great example of such leadership.


He further said that Sri Potti Sriramulu had a strong determination to fight for the self-respect of the Telugu people.


 Keeping the importance of the Telugu language in mind, he continued his struggle through non-violent means for the formation of linguistic states.


He also explained that Sri Potti Sriramulu began his fast unto death at the residence of Sri Bulusu Sambamurthy on Royapettah Road in Chennai and continued his fast with determination until he sacrificed his life.


Later, several TTD employees also spoke on the occasion. Before the programme, the guests paid floral tributes to the portrait of Sri Potti Sriramulu.


The programme was held under the chairmanship of Welfare Department Deputy Executive Officer Sri Anandaraju. TTD employees and students participated in the event.
