The JEO for Health and Education Smt Sada Bhargavi on Tuesday evening, inspected SV High School Grounds to verify the arrangements for TTD Employees annual Meet which is scheduled between February 2 to 18.

 

She directed the officials to arrange Shelter, breakfast, drinking water, parking, etc. to the participants.

The star-studded competition is set to begin on December 7 and conclude on December 11. The tournament will take place in Pune at the Balewadi Stadium.

Here is a quick look at the format, all 8 franchises, will play a total of 4 matches to qualify for the semi-final. Each match between two franchises will have a total of 4 games (Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Mixed Doubles and Men's Doubles). Where each game will be worth 20 points, thus there will be a total of 80 points at stake in each match. Each team will play a total of 320 points (80 points x 4 matches) at the league stage. The top 4 teams in the points table will qualify for the semi-finals. One player can only play two games in every match.

The spacious SV High School Grounds will be given a facelift soon and set ready to organise the Employees Sports Meet also which will be held in February, said TTD JEO (H & E) Smt Sada Bhargavi.

Commencing the Net Practice and Flood Lights which were arranged in SV High School Grounds at a cost of Rs. 10lakhs, the JEO also played for a while.

Later speaking on the occasion she said, with the efforts of TTD Chairman Sri YV Subba Reddy, EO Sri AV Dharma Reddy, former EO Sri KS Jawahar Reddy the Grounds has been allotted for the Employees Cricket Match.

She said the children of TTD employees will be trained in Hockey under the supervision of Kumari Rajani, International Hockey Player as well Sports Advisor to TTD.

DEO Sri Govindarajan, DyEO Welfare Smt Snehalatha and others were also present.

International Hockey Player Kumari Rajani exhorted students to choose area of their choice but never give up till succeeding.

She called on TTD JEOs Smt Sada Bhargavi and Sri Veerabrahmam after her appointment as sports adviser to TTD on Saturday.

Upon the advice of Smt Sada Bhargavi she interacted with students of Smt Padmavati Mahila Degree and PG College on Saturday.

Addressing them later she said she studied in Tirupati and after a lot of struggle achieved the fame as an international player.

She said with the blessings of Sri Venkateswara Swamy she achieved big goals and urged girl students to be mentally prepared to face all sorts of challenges in their journey to reach their dream goal.

She said she studied in Government schools where she was introduced to Hockey by her P.T Teacher. Though she attended the Indian hockey camp in 2008, she could not get selected. But she got out of the language hurdles and won a place in 2009 hockey team and played against New Zealand. "My struggle and dedication to place Andhra in big club earned me laurels which is my life's dream", she said with confidence.

She said she missed the 2019 Hockey Olympic team due to carona. Finally, in the 2022 Commonwealth games she bagged medals to bring laurels to the State as well to the country after 16 years.

She also thanked the Honourable CM of AP Sri YS Jaganmohan Reddy for encouraging and supporting her.

Later the College Principal Dr Mahadevamma felicitated Kumari Rajani.

Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF), a non-profit organisation which aids people with disabilities to pursue sporting career while also providing them self-sustenance, hosted the 11th Aditya Mehta Foundation Presentation and Felicitation Ceremony, to honour the athletes trained at AMF and went onto bring laurels by winning national and international medals, at Jubilee Hills International Centre, today. Chief Guest Shri C.V. Anand, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad; felicitated these athletes who made the country and AMF proud. Guests of Honour; Ms Lakshmi Manchu, Mentor to AMF & Actress; Shri SK Joshi, Trustee AMF & Past Chief Secretary, Telangana; Shri K Durga Prasad, Mentor to AMF & Past DG, CRPF; Ms Regina Cassandra, Trustee, AMF & Actress, Philanthropist & Ms Shilpa Reddy, Trustee, AMF & Ex Mrs. India & Entrepreneur. On the occasion the poster of Infinity Ride 2022 was released by the dignitaries and athletes associated with AMF were presented with Rs 80 lakhs worth of equipment.

 

Chief Guest Shri C.V. Anand speaking on the occasion said, AMF is the brainchild of Aditya Mehta, who does the all hard work, produces all the champions, but keeps away from public glare. In the nine years of its inception the Foundation has led to producing so many champions. All of us with our limbs and faculty in place are so lucky, but still tend to complain about many things, but it’s such a wonder to even see those sports on television, where people who lost their limbs or faculties due to acts of nature, exhibiting the wonderful spirit to compete and excel in the sport or in other functions. Its hats of to you guys for doing so much and showing the path to others who despite being endowed with everything overestimate and take those very things for granted. I also appreciate the theme here of ‘Say No to Drugs’, thank Aditya for taking up this cause. As you all are aware, we are on this drive in Hyderabad and Telangana state, to rid the city of this menace, which seems to be overtaking all the able bodied youth and teenagers. Its a very sad thing that this is happening. The way they are wasting their time, they just need to come and have a look at all of you who have shown the way to struggle and still do well. All the winners here are the real champions and role models for all others. I have known Aditya since I was a DCP and ACP here, I went on deputation to the CRPF, I was in charge of the Airports security. There I came across this issue of frisking of people with disability and Aditya was the guy who was at the forefront of the campaign wanting to make the frisking of disabled being done more caringly and being treated with dignity. His arguments were taken in the right spirit. He facilitated and made much more easier to treat them better, this is another facet of Aditya, which many may not be aware. He is a champion of the rights of the people with disability and really appreciate him. He has done lot of championing of various causes associated with divyang.

 

Shri SK Joshi said, I am looking forward to the day when AMF facilitates an Olympic medal in para-athletics and confident of Aditya fulfilling that. I am sure when we meet next time we will be felicitating an Olympic medallist.  

 

Ms Shilpa Reddy said, At AMF we support the athletes right from the grass root level and groom them to compete at the national and international levels. Our vision is to make India the super power in the world of para-sports. Apart from this we have adopted Devnar Blind School, Spurti Intellectual School, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and others, we have trained and rehabilitated the students from the grass root level and they won 44 medals. Recently we made India proud by clinching medals in both road and track events in the Asian Track Championship at Delhi, won totally 5 medals, two gold, one silver and two bronze. AMF will continue to strive to bring more laurels.

 

Ms Lakshmi Manchu said, we need to celebrate the initiative of Aditya and these athletes for what they achieved despite the hardships they came through and made us proud. We need to talk, share and celebrate their achievement to create hope in several others like these. Most of these para-athletes were not born like this, some incident happened with them, but they didn’t think their life got over, here they are proving to all of us that we can do more and much more.

Ms Regina Cassandra said, AMF’s moto is to make everyone understand that disability is not a disadvantage. Congratulate all those who won the medals and have become a source of inspiration for several others.

Vadla Reddimanikanth won gold medal in 100mts and silver in the 400mts at the State Level Para Athletic Championship, Vizag;

Jyoti Gaderiya won Gold at Asian Road Cycling, Tajikistan & two gold medals at the 10th Asian Para track cycling Championship;

Basavaraj won Bronze medal at 10th para track cycling championship 18-22 June 2022, Delhi;

K. Lokeshwari won Silver medal in Discuss throw at the 20th National Para Athletics Championship-2022, Bhubaneshwar; 2 Bronze Medals in Shotput and Discuss throw at the 19^th National Para Athletics Championship-2021, Bengaluru and Silver Medal in Shotput at the 3^rd Indian Open Para Athletics Championship-2021, Bengaluru; She is the only female para athlete from Telangana to win Nationals in Para Athletics.

Aditya Mehta Foundation later presented Rs 80 Lakhs worth of equipment to ten athletes, including customised Sports Limbs, High Racing cycles; Sports wheel chairs; Sports related equipment. AMF is also extending scholarships for training, nutrition and rehabilitation to these athletes and is also training students of Devnar school for Visually Impaired and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti’s children with disability.

 

The Infinity Ride '22, an annual cycling event organised to raise funds to train para-athletes and to create awareness about parasports, will be held from 6^th to 18^th September 2022 from Shimla to Kaza- Manali. The theme of Infinity Ride '22 is "Support Para-athletes, Create awareness of parasports and Say No To Drugs." Celebs like Lakshmi Manchu and Regina Cassandra will join over 10 para-athletes and 25 fundraising riders during the ride. This year’s ride is supported by Narcotics Control Bureau, Indo- Tibetan Border Police, Mudhra trust and Himachal Police.

L V Prasad Eye Institute hosts ‘Whitathon Run’ to raise awareness about Eye Cancers in Children!

 Hyderabad, 8^th May 2022: Whitathon Run, initiated in 2018, is L V Prasad Eye Institute’s annual cause-related event focusing on raising awareness and funds for early diagnosis and treatment of Retinoblastoma – a Life and Vision-threatening Eye Cancer in Children. One of the most common symptoms of Retinoblastoma is White Reflex (white glow) in a child’s eye. Through this run, LVPEI aims to raise awareness among the public that if they spot a ‘White Reflex’ in a child’s eye, it could be a sign of eye cancer that needs immediate medical intervention. The funds raised through this run, helps the Institute to provide free treatment to children from underprivileged families who have retinoblastoma.

 

The first edition of the run was organized in 2018 with 2000+ runners, the second edition in 2019 had 2500+ runners, and the third edition (virtual run) in 2021 had 350+ runners. With the funds raised, LVPEI has been able to provide free treatment to children with retinoblastoma who come from underprivileged backgrounds. The treatment for eye cancer is very expensive and happens over a longer duration.

 

The Fourth Edition of the WHITATHON RUN was organized at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad, today. Like every year, this year too Hyderabad Runners supported the run. There are three categories in the run – 3km (fun run), 5Km (timed run) and 10km (timed run). The run was flagged off by Sri M Rajesh Chandra, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police. Dr Gullapalli N Rao – Founder and Chair, Board of Trustees, L V Prasad Eye Institute and Dr Swathi Kaliki, Ocular Oncologist and Head - Operation Eyesight Universal Institute for Eye Cancer at L V Prasad Eye Institute.

 

Speaking after flagging of the run Sri Rajesh Chandra said, Whitathon Run is for a noble cause to create awareness about eye cancers in children. Early detection of eye cancer helps save several lives of kids besides their sight and eye.

 

Dr Gullapalli N Rao said, we are here for a very important cause, saving the lives of children. Which is possible by raising public awareness about eye cancer in children. This helps parents to seek appropriate medical help as soon as they identify abnormality in child’s eye and that can be treated, we can save lives, and in early stage the sight and the eye too can be saved. Nearly 20 to 25% of the world burden of this problem is shared by our country, which is approximately 1500 to 2000 cases. Dr Swathi and her team at L V Prasad Eye Institute, take care of a large percentage of these cases in the country. So, we need your help to raise awareness about this. What we are addressing in India is a tip of the iceberg, several, especially in the rural areas go undetected and end up in death. We want to promote awareness to prevent needless deaths among children from eye cancer.

 

Dr Swathi Kaliki, Ocular Oncologist and Head - Operation Eyesight Universal Institute for Eye Cancer at L V Prasad Eye Institute says, “This is a Whitathon Run organized to highlight the white reflex in infant’s eye, which is a sign of cancer called Retinoblastoma. This cancer is seen in infants below three years of age. Need to raise awareness:

·         Retinoblastoma (eye cancer) most commonly affects children below 3 years of age (90%)

·         20 to 25% of cases of eye cancer worldwide in children are from India, and 50% of cases worldwide lose their lives due to late detection and inadequate treatment

·         Retinoblastoma is curable if the tumour is detected and treated early; thus saving the life, eye, and vision of the child

·         Over the past decade, LVPEI has treated more than 2000 patients with retinoblastoma eye cancer

·         Though it was possible to save the life of the child in 90% of the cases, the eyesight of the child could be saved in only 45% of the cases, the reason being late presentation of the case

·         Hence, it is important to raise awareness about the common symptoms of retinoblastoma in children and educate the public (specially young parents) on the importance of seeking timely medical care

 

Need to raise funds:

·         Retinoblastoma treatment is expensive and long in duration

·        Over 60 to 65% of patient families cannot afford the expense of the treatment

·         Thanks to the funds received from such cause-related events and donations, LVPEI is able to provide free treatment to children from underprivileged families
