ANKURARPANAM PERFORMED FOR SRI SOUMYANATHA SWAMY BRAHMOTSAVAMS BRAHMOTSAVAMS TO BEGIN WITH DWAJAROHANAM ON JULY 22

The annual Brahmotsavams of the ancient and renowned Sri Soumyanatha Swamy Temple at Nandalur in Kadapa district commenced with the traditional Ankurarpanam ceremony on Tuesday evening.

The rituals began in the morning with Suprabhata Seva, Thomala Seva, and Sahasranamarchana. In the evening, Veda Parayanam, Senadhipati Utsavam, Medini Puja, Mrutsangrahanam, and Ankurarpanam were performed as per Agama traditions, marking the formal commencement of the festivities.

Dwajarohanam on July 22

The Brahmotsavams will officially begin with Dwajarohanam on Wednesday between 7.45 a.m. and 8.15 a.m. Before the flag-hoisting ceremony, Sri Soumyanatha Swamy along with Sridevi and Bhudevi, Dhwajapatam, and Chakrathalwar will be taken in a sacred procession from 6.00 a.m. to 7.30 a.m.

Temple of Wish Fulfilment

Sri Soumyanatha Swamy is revered as the fulfiller of devotees' wishes. It is believed that performing nine pradakshinams around the sanctum fulfills one's prayers, while devotees traditionally perform 108 pradakshinams after their wishes are fulfilled.

A Temple with Rich Heritage

Built in the 11th century, the temple was renovated during the rule of the Pandya, Kakatiya, and Vijayanagara dynasties. It houses inscriptions dating from the 10th to the 17th century and has two sacred temple tanks, one inside and another outside the temple premises.

Saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya composed 16 Sankirtanas in praise of Sri Soumyanatha Swamy. The temple is also known for its unique pillars adorned with lion sculptures, giving rise to the local belief that another temple exists beneath the present structure.

Temple Deputy EO Smt. Prashanthi, AEO Sri Ravi, Superintendent Sri Hanumanthaiah, Temple Inspector Sri Dileep, priests, Srivari Sevaks, and other officials participated in the ceremony.
